The Mythology behind Restrictionist Immigration Reform

Plans to “torpedo immigration reform” are underway, supported by the Heritage Foundation and republican Senator Jeff Sessions from Alabama.  Sessions and the Heritage Foundation argue that immigrants flock to America, primarily to take advantage of the social-welfare system.  The Heritage Foundation made false and skewed claims that misrepresented the facts about immigrants in this country.  In fact, quite the opposite is occurring within the Latino community, where they are mass-migrating to states that actually have “stingy” benefits, rather than to states such as New York or California.

I found it interesting that Restrictionists constantly reference the influx of immigrants during the 1990s, but fail to mention that, although this influx could have threatened jobs and wages, their argument fails to mention that America had low unemployment for many years.  Further, American (non-immigrant) households living at poverty level decreased from the years 1995 – 2004.
