Student Visas: Unnecessarily Scrutinized?

In the wake of the recent bombings in Boston by foreign visa students, republicans, federal agents, and other anti-immigrant sentiments have emerged.  The Department of Homeland Security ordered U.S. Customs agents to verify in full any foreign student entering the country to ensure the accuracy of their visa status.  Reports indicate that two friends who aided in the Boston bombing were in the country on invalid visa status.

Frankly, why are conservatives so hell-bent on foreign entities on our soil?  The number of domestic attacks – from police & school shootings to road rage – are far greater in number and in threat than that of foreign students seeking an education in our country.  Chuck Grassley was “surprised” that the administration had not addressed these potential loopholes in our foreign visa system. Surprised? Ever since Bush left office, the right has done nothing but obstruct any progress from the current administration, so why is it surprising that this issue has not been addressed?
